Crystal Palace set for talks with former Bayer Leverkusen manager

Crystal Palace will hold talks with former Bayer Leverkusen manager Roger Schmidt this week as they look to appoint Sam Allardyce’s successor, claims The Independent.

The Eagles were left stunned when Allardyce announced his retirement shortly after guiding the club clear of relegation and the south London outfit have been forced to scramble to secure a new manager before the start of next season.

Burnley manager Sean Dyche is reportedly keen on managing Palace but the Eagles are weighing up their options and will expand their search by talking to 50-year-old Schmidt, while former Alaves manager Mauricio Pellegrino is also on their radar.

Schmidt has been out of work since being sacked as Leverkusen manager at the start of March after three years at the club. The German boss impressed during his time at the Bundesliga giants where his high intensity pressing game was admired, particularly against Tottenham in the Champions League last season.

During his three years in charge of Leverkusen, Schmidt won nearly half of his 125 matches in all competitions (49.6%).
