Liverpool midfielder flattered by Juventus’ interest

Emre Can has revealed he is flattered by the interest shown by Juventus but insists he is focused on Liverpool for the remainder of the season.

The Germany international will have six months remaining on his current Liverpool deal in January and will be free to sign a pre-contract for next summer with foreign clubs.

Juventus have earmarked Can as the ideal long-term replacement for Sami Khedira and the 23-year-old admits he is flattered by the interest shown by such a prestigious club.

“It’s always an honour to receive an offer from such a renowned club, but currently I am only focused on the season with Liverpool,” ESPN quote Can as saying. “My agent takes care of the rest.

“The Premier League is just a really cool league, the most interesting in the world, but you must always respect other big clubs and leagues.”

Can has started five of Liverpool’s opening seven Premier League matches this season and both of the club’s Champions League group stage games but will not pledge his long-term future to the club unless they include a release clause in his new deal.

Liverpool also refused Philippe Coutinho a release clause when he committed his future at the start of the year and that worked in their favour when fending off interest from Barcelona over the summer.

However, Can is now approaching the end of his current deal and the stand-off could see him walk away from the club for nothing.

Since the start of last season, only Christian Benteke (94) and Oriol Romeu (82) have committed more fouls in the Premier League than Can (78).
