Manchester United outcast shelves exit plans

Anthony Martial is willing to be patient before deciding on his Manchester United future, claims The Daily Telegraph.

The France international has endured a turbulent relationship with manager Jose Mourinho during the last two years and has been heavily linked with a move away this summer.

Martial’s agent, Philippe Lamboley, revealed at the end of last season that his client wished to leave Old Trafford and Premier League rivals Chelsea and Tottenham were reported admirers.

Mourinho wanted United to offload the 22-year-old in order to accommodate a new forward, but the club’s hierarchy overruled their manager.

United are convinced that Martial can still become a superstar after enjoying a sensational first season at the club prior to Mourinho’s arrival.

The Red Devils have been quick to dispense with some big name forwards in the past and United do not want Martial to become another.

Ed Woodward, in particular, is convinced Martial has everything to become a superstar and that has persuaded Martial to stick it out until next summer.

There are lingering doubts whether Mourinho will even be at the club by that point, in which case Martial would have the chance to re-launch his United career.

Martial became an instant fan favourite after coming off the bench to score against Liverpool on his United debut and supporters want to see the Frenchman succeed at the club.

The United No.11 has entered the final year of his existing contract and has already turned down a new deal, but the club have an option to extend his stay by a further 12 months.

Since making his debut for United three years ago, Martial has scored the most Premier League goals for the club (24).
