Leicester manager Rodgers eyes Liverpool raid

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers wants to reunite with Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge this summer, claims The Sun.

Sturridge’s current Liverpool deal is due to expire at the end of the season and is unlikely to be renewed.

There was a moment at the start of the season when Liverpool considered handing Sturridge a new deal but he has only started one game in 2019.

The former England international has been heavily linked with a move to America but could still yet have offers to remain in the Premier League.

Leicester want to sign a striker who can provide competition with Jamie Vardy next season and Sturridge has emerged as a leading candidate.

Rodgers was Liverpool manager when they signed Sturridge from Chelsea in the summer of 2013 and brought the best out of the 29-year-old during his time at the club.

Sturridge has never managed to rediscover the same form under Jurgen Klopp and his career has been hampered by a series of reoccurring muscle injuries.

Sturridge scored 21 league goals in Rodgers’ last full campaign as Liverpool manager and has only netted 19 times in 71 subsequent league appearances for the Reds.
