Cologne rubbish talk of Liverpool bid for Hector

Cologne have refuted claims Liverpool have had a £12m bid for left-back Jonas Hector accepted.

Reports emerged over the weekend suggesting Liverpool had stepped up their interest in the Germany international and had even had a bid accepted.

Left-back is an area in which Jurgen Klopp is expected to strengthen over the weekend but they are not on the verge of signing Hector, according to Cologne sporting director Jorg Schmadtke.

“There is nothing in it. There is no question of an offer from Liverpool,” he told German newspaper Express, via The Daily Mail.

“If someone comes up with double [the number reported], then I might answer the phone. But I believe that Jonas plays in the new season with us. “
