The Football Association will renew their interest in Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger to replace Sam Allardyce as England manager on a permanent basis, reports The Daily Telegraph.
Under-21 manager Gareth Southgate has been promoted to handle England’s next four matches after Sam Allardyce was relieved of his duties following recent controversies.
England had sounded out Wenger to replace Roy Hodgson in July but were knocked back in their attempts to poach the Arsenal manager.
However, the FA will launch another attempt to convince Wenger and hope he will agree to take over control at the end of the Premier League season, which is when his current contract with Arsenal is due to expire.
Arsenal are still keen to extend Wenger’s stay at the club and will not be impressed by the FA’s renewed interest in their manager. Wenger celebrated 20 years as Arsenal manager last weekend with a 3-0 win over Chelsea.
