Atletico Madrid will step up their interest in Paris-Saint Germain outcast Edinson Cavani in the summer, according to MARCA.
Diego Simeone’s side are expected to bolster their offensive options this summer following Jackson Martinez’s departure in January and Fernando Torres impending exit at the end of the season.
Atletico are still hopeful of bring Chelsea striker Diego Costa back to the Spanish capital but they have are also sounding out Cavani as a possible alternative.
The Uruguayan striker has dropped down the pecking order at PSG this season after falling out with Laurent Blanc an and a number of the players at the club and has been heavily linked with a move away from the Parc des Princes in the summer.
Cavani, 29, still has more than two years remaining on his current deal at the Ligue 1 champions and the Parisen outfit will likely look to recapture most of £55m they spent on landing the striker from Napoli in 2013.
Atletico would also have to find a way to fund his enormous wage demands, but Cavani is reportedly warming to the idea of becoming a star under Simeone, a fellow Uruguayan, at the Vicente Calderon.
Since August 2013, only Zlatan Ibrahimovic (68) and Alexandre Lacazette (54) have scored more goals in Ligue 1 than Cavani (46).
