I’m yet to receive contract offer, states Tottenham star

Toby Alderweireld has insisted that he is still waiting to hear on a new contract from Tottenham.

The centre-back, who is currently with the Belgium national team, has been linked with a move away from the club this summer and after two impressive seasons with Spurs, won’t be short of potential destinations should he decide to leave.

Alderweireld is two years into the four-year deal he signed when he moved to the north London side from Atletico Madrid in 2015, while Sky reported back in December that talks over a fresh contract were planned.

Various outlets have suggested that Alderweireld had turned down a new offer, but the 28-year-old has revealed that he is yet to receive any word from Spurs over a fresh deal.

“I'm still waiting for a contract proposal, but in my mind I'm playing for Spurs next season,” Alderweireld is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.

“There is no talk now, so it's all rumours, because if there's no talk there's no rejection as well. We will see in the future how it will go."

Alderweireld’s current contract contains a clause that, should Spurs trigger a one-year extension on his deal, means he can leave for £25m in 2019, which the club are understandably keen to remove.
