Axed Arsenal captain set for January move

Arsenal plan to sell Granit Xhaka in January after stripping the midfielder of the captain's armband, claims The Daily Mirror.

Xhaka has missed Arsenal's last three matches after falling out with Arsenal supporters in their 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace last month.

Unai Emery has confirmed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as Arsenal's new captain and Xhaka fears he will be shown the door in January.

Xhaka has spent the last three years at Arsenal after completing a £34m switch from Bundesliga side Gladbach after developing a good reputation in Germany.

The Switzerland international has been widely criticised during his time at Arsenal and the majority of supporters would be glad to see the back of him.

Lucas Torreira, Dani Ceballos and Joe Willock will now hope to replace Xhaka in Arsenal's midfield on a full-time basis.

Of players that have started at least 100 Premier League games since August 2016, only Southampton midfielder Oriol Romeu (1 every 259 minutes) recieves a yellow card more frequently than Xhaka (1 every 310 minutes).
