Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso has emerged as a shock target for Atletico Madrid this month, claims The Daily Mail.
Alonso has emerged as one of the best full-backs in the Premier League since joining Chelsea in 2016.
Atletico are resigned to losing Filipe Luis to Paris Saint-Germain this month and have earmarked Alonso as his top replacement.
Diego Simeone’s side have until the end of the month to finalise their squad but will struggle to prise Alonso away from Stamford Bridge.
The transfer window for English clubs shut at the start of August and Chelsea would not be able to replace Alonso if he departs.
Atletico manager Simeone insists he wants to keep Luis but the Brazil international has reportedly agreed personal terms with PSG.
Since returning to the Premier League with Chelsea, Alonso has scored more goals than any other defender (14).
Alonso has made a fine start to the season and is currently the sixth highest WhoScored rated player in the Premier League (8.22).
