Serie A star would only leave Atalanta for a huge club
Serie A ace Alejandro Gomez has revealed he has no interest in moving to MLS or China and would only leave Atalanta for one of the biggest clubs.
Gomez, 29, has been in sensational form for Atalanta this season and he could well fire Gian Piero Gasperini’s side into the Champions League next season.
Many clubs would understandably be interested in the versatile Argentine forward but the Atalanta No.10 has sent out a message to any club looking to sign him.
“I never made any promises because I don’t know the future,” Gomez told L’Eco di Bergamo, via Gianluca Di Marzio. “I can just reiterate, as I’ve always done, that I would only leave Atalanta for a big club, for a team that is competing for the Scudetto in Italy or Champions League in Europe.
“China? I wouldn’t make the mistake of four years ago, leave for a salary to then have to come back. For China, United States and Middle East there will be time, I never played in a European competition and I want to.”
Gomez has scored or assisted 20 goals in 30 appearances for Atalanta in Serie A this season, the first time he has reached that landmark in a single campaign in his career.
Not only that, but Gomez is the highest rated player in Serie A this season (7.76), having been awarded more Man of the Match awards than any other player in the division (9).
