Chelsea have potential advantage in Lukaku race

Chelsea could take advantage of clauses in the deal that took Romelu Lukaku to Everton to lure the striker back to Stamford Bridge at a discounted price this summer, according to The Daily Mail.

Lukaku, 22, is expected to attract heavy interest in the summer with Everton out of the running to finish in a European spot this season, with Manchester United and Chelsea among those interested in the Belgium international.

The powerful striker has been in sublime form this season and Everton will reportedly demand a British transfer record £65m sum for his signature in order to ward off potential suitors in the summer.

However, it has now emerged that Chelsea could try and exploit contractual loopholes in order to get sign the striker at a much cheaper price. Lukaku left Chelsea for Everton in a £28m in 2014 but the deal included multiple performance-related clauses, not all of which have been activated.

Winning the FA Cup this season would mean Everton would have to pay Chelsea some more money and the Blues could use any money that is owed to them as a bargaining chip to reduce Everton’s £65m valuation.
