Chelsea pondering Roma double swoop

Premier League leaders Chelsea are considering a £70m double swoop for Roma pair Radja Nainggolan and Antonio Rudiger this summer, reports the Sun.

Chelsea were routinely rebuffed in their efforts to sign Nainggolan last summer as Roma remained steadfast in their efforts to retain the Belgian’s services.

The Blues, though, could return for the 29-year-old midfielder at the end of the season and will look to come away with Rudiger also.

The Germany international is one of the most highly rated defenders on the continent, though injury has restricted him to just 22 league starts this season after he missed Euro 2016 with a knee problem.

Manager Antonio Conte is already gearing up for next season and is outlining his plans for the upcoming campaign, with Tiemoue Bakayoko also set for a move to Stamford Bridge.

It remains to be seen whether the club’s interest in Bakayoko would affect any move for Nainggolan, but Conte is a keen admirer of the Belgium international.

With the Chelsea boss also looking to strengthen his defence, the Italian boss would welcome the addition of Rudiger, who is capable of playing any position across the backline.
