Manchester United attempting swift deal to re-sign academy graduate

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho hopes the club can complete a swift deal to re-sign Burnley defender Michael Keane, reports The Daily Mail.

Mourinho has given executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward the greenlight to press ahead with a £24m move to bring Keane back to Old Trafford just three years after they sold the England international to Sean Dyche’s side for £2m.

Keane has enjoyed an outstanding campaign for the Clarets and has also been linked with a summer move to Everton and Liverpool in recent months, but a return to United seems like the most likely outcome for the 24-year-old.

United have already watched rivals Manchester City complete a stunning £43m deal to sign Bernardo Silva from Monaco and Mourinho also wants to get his business concluded early starting with the arrival of Keane.

Mourinho’s side are set to retain £6m of the £24m bid for Keane due to the 25 per cent sell-on clause they included in the deal that saw Keane leave the club and it comes just 12 months after they broke the world record fee for a player to re-sign Paul Pogba from Juventus last summer.

Only Bournemouth defender Steve Cook (226) completed more headed clearances in the Premier League this season than Keane (176).
