Key Manchester United midfielder set for new contract

Manchester United are increasingly hopeful they will reach an agreement with Marouane Fellaini over a new deal, reports the Daily Mirror.

Fellaini has become a key member for United this season after the Belgian was the subject of derision by some quarters of the fanbase.

The 29-year-old has scored four goals in his last five competitive appearances for United and has emerged as one of Jose Mourinho’s most trusted midfielders.

However, his contract expires at the end of the season and while negotiations have started between the club and Fellaini’s representatives, a deal is yet to be struck.

Fellaini’s importance to the side is likely to see the midfielder offered a new two-year deal with the option for a third year.

United are keen to secure his services before the New Year, with Fellaini free to speak to teams from January 1st if a new contract is not in place by then.

United, however, are confident they can strike a deal in the coming weeks that would see the player extend his stay at Old Trafford.
