Van Dijk makes decision on Liverpool future

Virgil van Dijk wants to pledge his faith to Liverpool by signing a new long-term deal, claims ESPN.

The Netherlands international has developed into the best defender in the world since joining Liverpool from Southampton in a record deal worth £75m at the end of 2017.

Liverpool made Van Dijk the most expensive defender of all-time in order to land the towering centre-back and he has been worth every penny to Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Van Dijk’s current deal is not due to expire until the summer of 2023 but it has now been revealed the 27-year-old is keen to put pen to paper on fresh terms.

Van Dijk is already one of Liverpool’s highest earners but his immense performances over the last 12 months are certainly worth a wage hike.

Liverpool want to keep Van Dijk for the remainder of his career but it would not be a surprise if Real Madrid came calling for the Dutchman in the next few years.

Van Dijk finished the 2018/19 campaign in the WhoScored Team of the Season in the Premier League and was not dribbled past once by an opposition player in his last 64 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool.
