Atletico Madrid are interested in signing Inter striker Mauro Icardi as a replacement for Diego Costa this summer, claims AS.
Costa was sent off in Atletico’s 2-0 defeat to Barcelona on Saturday when the scoreline was 0-0.
The Spain international has struggled for form and fitness this season and Atletico boss Diego Simeone is quickly running out of patience.
Simeone is now considering a raid of former club Inter to sign out of favour striker Icardi.
The Argentina international was stripped of the Inter captaincy earlier this year before being banished away from first-team football for two months.
Icardi has been reintegrated into Luciano Spalletti’s first-team in recent weeks and has started Inter’s last two matches.
However, his future at Inter beyond the end of the season is uncertain and he is widely expected to leave, with Atletico monitoring his situation.
Despite a two-month absence, Icardi has still managed to score 10 league goals for Inter this season.
The 26-year-old has netted at least 10 goals in six of his seven league campaigns in Serie A.
