Manchester United and Chelsea make contact for Bundesliga striker
Manchester United and Chelsea have checked in on German hotshot Timo Werner but the RB Leipzig star is waiting for Liverpool to make their move, claims Bild.
Werner is widely expected to leave Leipzig this summer and has made it clear his first choice destination is Liverpool to play under Jurgen Klopp.
Liverpool are interested in the Germany international but are unlikely to make any big transfers this summer due to the financial implications of the coronavirus pandemic.
Klopp's side will only make an official move for Werner if they cash in on the likes of Roberto Firmino, Mo Salah or Sadio Mane.
Liverpool certainly do not see themselves triggering Werner's £54m release clause before it expires on June 15.
United and Chelsea are therefore monitoring Werner's future at Leipzig, with both of Liverpool's Premier League rivals keen on signing a new striker for next season.
Werner has been in outstanding form for Leipzig this season, with 28 goal involvements in 25 league appearances (21 goals, seven assists) - his best individual campaign.
