Gundogan’s representatives deny deal with Premier League team
Ilkay Gundogan’s representatives have refuted suggestions there is a deal in place for the Borussia Dortmund midfielder to join Manchester City in the summer.
With Pep Guardiola set to replace Manuel Pellegrini at the end of the season, City have been linked with a number of players from the Bundesliga and reports had emerged suggesting they already had a deal in principle to sign Gundogan for £25m.
City’s director of football Txiki Begiristain was pictured with Gundogan’s uncle and agent in Amsterdam last month sparking suggestions a deal was making progress, but his representatives have now moved to refute those reports.
“It’s not true [that it is a done deal]. There is no decision and everything is still open. Ilkay is focusing further on his recovery,” his management group told German newspaper Bild, via ESPN.
Gundogan has missed Dortmund’s last four matches through injury and has been forced to watch Germany’s two friendlies on the sidelines but he has been in sublime form for Thomas Tuchel’s Dortmund side this season.
In fact, no player has won possession more in the midfield third than Gundogan (102) in the Bundesliga this season.
