Schalke confirm Liverpool and Tottenham target to leave this summer

Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel has confirmed highly rated midfielder Max Meyer will leave the club in the summer.

Meyer’s existing deal is due to expire at the end of the season and the 22-year-old will not renew with his boyhood club.

The news will put the likes of Liverpool and Tottenham on red alert as both Premier League clubs have previously been linked with a move for Meyer.

“Max Meyer will definitely leave Schalke this summer,” Heidel said in a statement published on Schalke’s official Twitter account.

“We’re dealing with the situation very professionally. It’s all be very amicable.”

Schalke are also losing Leon Goretzka at the end of the season after the Germany international announced he would join Bayern Munich in the summer back in January.

The Bundesliga side are well placed to qualify for the Champions League next season for the first time since crashing out in the round of 16 in the 2014/15 campaign.

Meyer has made 24 league appearances for Schalke this season but is on course to finish his time at the club without a goal or an assist in a single campaign for the first time in his career.

With news that Meyer will leave Schalke in mind, it’s worth considering the youngster for your Football INDEX portfolios. His share price is currently £1.95 and is already on the rise.
