West Ham confirm Byram capture

West Ham have announced they have signed Leeds United defender Sam Byram on a four-and-a-half year deal.

The Hammers have fended off competition from Everton to sign the highly-rated full-back from Leeds.

Byram, 22, had entered the final six months of his deal at Leeds and has joined Slaven Bilic’s team for a reported £3.5m.

“I’m unbelievably proud and happy to join a club as big as this,” Byram told the West Ham official website. “I’m just looking forward to what the future holds and hopefully I can achieve things with the team going forward.

“It’s a childhood dream of mine to play in the Premier League, so to have the chance to get into a team like this and I just want to get my head down, work hard and hopefully get a chance.

“I spoke to the manager and he is one of the main reasons which attracted me to West Ham. I think he’s done unbelievably well with his team so far, so I’m really looking forward to working with him and his staff.”

Byram, who is a right-back by trade, has been regularly deployed in advanced positions this season and has flourished with three goals to his name. No Leeds player, however, has picked up more bookings than the youngster this season (7), who has only started 16 league games.
