Chelsea weigh up £25m move for Benfica defender

Chelsea are prepared to match the £25m buy-out clause in Benfica defender Victor Lindelof’s contract, according to Portuguese newspaper Record, via 101 Great Goals.

Lindelof has endured a sensational year after following up breaking into the Benfica first team in January with a call-up to Sweden’s Euro 2016 squad.

The 22-year-old could now be on the verge of joining Chelsea after his agent informed Benfica Antonio Conte’s side are prepared to match his buy-out clause this summer.

Lindelof is a central defender by trade but proved capable of playing at right-back for Sweden this summer at the European Championships. Only two players for Sweden averaged more passes per game at Euro 2016 than Lindelof (43.3).
