Barca legend wants to return as coach

Former Barcelona legend Xavi has revealed his ambitions to return to the La Liga giants as manager one day.

Xavi, 35, left the Nou Camp over the summer for Qatari side Al Sadd after 17 years as a professional at the club.

The former Spain international made 767 appearances for Barcelona and is targeting a return in the future.

“I like the pitch, being close to the football, what happens in the game itself,” Xavi told Fifa when asked about his ambitions after his playing career. “I’m going to learn the trade [management] – I’ve already started my education here at the Aspire Academy.

“I’m following Spanish football from over here while I’m still playing and I’m really enjoying myself. After that, I don’t know what the future will hold for me, but of course I’d love to return to Barca one day.

“That’s my aim and the closer it is to the pitch, the better.”

In the final six years of his Barcelona career, only Lionel Messi (440) made more key passes than Xavi (393).
