Juventus had a €17m (£12.36m) bid for Franco Vazquez rejected by Palermo this summer before eventually signing Hernanes, according to Calciomercato.
The Serie A champions have been linked with a host of midfielders across the continent in recent months, as they looked to bolster their midfield following the departures of Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal.
Massimiliano Allegri’s side failed in landing Bayern Munich’s Mario Gotze and Julian Draxler from Schalke and it has now emerged the Bianconeri also fell short in their pursuits of Vazquez.
According to Calciomercato, Juventus first enquired about Vazquez when signing Paulo Dybala, but were told they would need to summon a bid of €25m (£18.18m) to sign the Argentine.
The Old Lady returned with a second enquiry in July and were prepared to offer €17m plus bonuses for the 26-year-old in any eventuality that would have seen the deal to sign Hernanes from Inter fall through.
Vazquez’s performances last season ranked him as the best player in Serie A last season, with a WhoScored rating of 7.74 and was one of just two players to reach double figures for goals and assists (both 10).
