Arsenal midfielder open to La Liga switch

Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla has revealed he wants to return to Spain before retiring and has one eye on playing for Villarreal again.

Cazorla, 31, came up through the Villarreal academy and spent seven years in the first-team spread over two spells at the club before moving to Malaga in 2011 and then Arsenal a year later.

The Spain international has been one of Arsenal’s most consistent performers in the last two years but he has been sidelined with a knee injury since November, which has coincidentally coincided with the Gunners’ decline in the league.

Cazorla has more than a year remaining on his current deal at the Emirates and the central midfielder has plans to return to Spain in the future.

“I would not rule out returning to Villarreal [at some point],” Cazorla told Spanish newspaper AS, via the London Evening Standard. “Everyone knows how special that club is for me.

“If I get permission from my club I will be attending the Europa League semi final second leg at Anfield, as another groguet [yellow] supporter.”
