Manchester United are preparing an improved £18m bid for Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier, reports The Sun.
United want to sign Trippier to provide competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and have already failed with a £10m offer for the former Tottenham right-back.
Trippier has spent the last two years in Spain and won La Liga with Atletico last season but has decided he wants to return to England.
The 30-year-old reportedly has a £35m release clause in his current Atletico deal and Diego Simeone's side are adamant it must be triggered.
United have no intention of matching Atletico's valuation, particularly as they only paid £20m for Trippier themselves and he turns 31 in less than a month's time.
England manager Gareth Southgate hailed Trippier as a 'defensive monster' at Euro 2020 as a result of working under Simeone.

However, United hope Trippier's arrival wil unlock the right side of United's attack with Jadon Sancho also poised to join.
Trippier finished 2020/21 as the best-rated right-back in La Liga (7.20) and he also had the best cross accuracy (32.4%) of all full-backs in Europe's top 5 leagues.
