Chelsea not interested in selling loan star

Chelsea have no interest in selling Andreas Christensen to Bayern Munich or Barcelona and want him to return from his loan spell at Gladbach at the end of the season.

Antonio Conte reportedly failed in his attempts to cut short Christensen’s loan spell in the summer, while a £14.25m bid from Gladbach to make the loan switch permanent was also turned down by the Blues.

According to Gladbach’s sporting director Max Eberl, who is still hopeful of keeping Christensen, Chelsea will not sell such a world-class talent to one of their elite rivals.

“It will be a hard task [to keep Christensen] but I am hopeful that we can do it,” Eberl told Sky Deutschland, via The Daily Mail. “We probably won’t buy him but maybe there’s another way. And even if he has only been with us for two years, that would be a great story.

“He’s a top player. Chelsea are taking care of those players they’ve loaned out very well. Andreas has said: ‘if I can start matches for Chelsea, I will go back”.

“He’ll be a world-class player. Chelsea are not going to sell such a player to Barcelona or Bayern. So, another way is still possible.”

After failing to bring the Denmark international back to Stamford Bridge this summer, Conte was forced to look at other defensive options before eventually re-signing David Luiz from Pairs Saint-Germain in a deal worth around £30m.

Of players to have made at least four starts in the Bundesliga this season only Javi Martinez (91.9%) has a higher pass success rate than Christensen (91.8%).
