El Shaarawy completes move from Roma to China

Roma have confirmed Stephan El Shaarawy has completed an €18m move to Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai Shenhua.

El Shaarawy had entered the final 12 months of his Roma contract and the Serie A outfit have decided to cash-in on the 26-year-old.

Roma were in talks to renew El Shaarawy’s contract earlier this summer but negotiations stalled over the player’s wage demands.

The Italy international has now secured a lucrative move to China and penned a three-year deal reportedly worth €15m a season after tax with Shanghai Shenhua.

The Chinese Super League outfit currently have former Watford striker Odion Ighalo at the club, though he is away with Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations at the moment.

El Shaarawy has spent the last three years at Roma and last season was by far his best at the club.

The Italian winger hit double figures for goals in a league campaign (11) for the first time since 2012/13 (16).
