Norwich star would be a great signing for Tottenham, claims ex-striker

Norwich defender Max Aarons would be a great signing for Premier League side Tottenham, or at least that's the opinion of ex-Spurs striker Darren Bent.

Spurs are in the market for a new right-back, with Serge Aurier cutting a divisive figure following his arrival from PSG in 2017.

The Ivorian has improved since Jose Mourinho took over as Spurs boss back in November, yet the Portuguese manager is yet to be wholly convinced by the 27-year-old.

Reports suggest that Spurs are looking to wrap up a deal for Aarons sooner rather than later and Bent is backing the 20-year-old to succeed in north London.

"I really like him, Max Aarons. I really, really like him," Bent told Football Insider.

"I watched him a lot in the Championship, and he’s taken a major step up to the Premier League and done very, very well. If Norwich do go down, which looks like it might happen, I think he’ll be out the door.

"I think he’d be a great signing for Spurs. They struggled, in some respects, to replace Kyle Walker. They’ve got Serge Aurier but he’s really struggled at times. They’ve been had to play Moussa Sissoko back there. So for me, I think he’d be a good signing.

"We know what Spurs are like, and it really follows that trend of signing young, English players. It’s been happening for years, and for me it sounds right."

The youngster has made 27 league starts for the Canaries this season and while Norwich seem destined to drop back into the Championship, Aarons is likely to be plying his trade in the Premier League for the foreseeable future.
