Fenerbahce eye shock move for Aston Villa striker

Fenerbahce are weighing up a surprise move for Aston Villa striker Ross McCormack as cover for Robin van Persie, reports The Daily Mail.

Van Persie suffered a knee injury for Holland during the international break and reports have emerged suggesting he could be sidelined for 12 months.

The former Manchester United striker has since refuted those claims but Fenerbahce are still looking to bolster their offensive options before Friday’s deadline.

Villa manager Steve Bruce deems McCormack surplus to requirements and Fenerbahce are exploring a potential loan move for the 31-year-old.

The Scotland international’s proposed move to Sunderland collapsed on deadline day after the two club’s failed to agree a loan fee, but he could still be handed a way out of Villa Park.

In the last five Championship seasons (excluding playoffs), McCormack has scored at least five more goals than any other player (70).
