Manchester United target wants Arsenal deal, says Wenger

Arsene Wenger believes Manchester United target Mesut Ozil wants to stay at Arsenal beyond the end of the season.

Ozil will have six months remaining on his existing deal in January and will be free to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from the start of next month.

The Germany international has already rejected previous contract offers from Arsenal but Wenger believes the 29-year-old’s preference is to sign a new deal with the club.

“Yes. Certainly I think he takes responsibilities and that is what you want from him,” ESPN quote Wenger as saying when asked whether Ozil’s playing at his best.

“He is mature, he guides the team, they are aware he is a lot on the ball. Always your heart rate goes down when he has the ball.

“I believe he wants to stay. I wouldn’t like to compare [Ozil and Alexis Sanchez]. You want nobody to leave and see where we stand on that. But at the moment it is very difficult to [say].”

Ozil has only scored or assisted eight Premier League goals this season but they have all come in his last nine appearances for the Gunners.

United manager Jose Mourinho is keen on reuniting with Ozil at Old Trafford either in January or at the end of the season.

Now that Ozil is playing his best football of the season, his Football INDEX share price has increased 13.68% over the last seven days to its current rate of £3.80 a share.

Speculation will only intensify as the January transfer window approaches, while there should also be media dividends coming your way as he will be one of the most talked about footballers next month. Even if there isn’t a big increase in price now, he could prove a shrewd investment going forward.
