Liverpool eye £20m-rated Bundesliga prospect

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is interested in Schalke starlet Weston McKennie, claims The Sun.

The 20-year-old is part of an exciting crop of players coming through the USA national team, which includes Christian Pulisic.

Klopp surprisingly passed on the chance to sign Pulisic in January and watched the Borussia Dortmund ace join rivals Chelsea despite being a long-term admirer of the winger.

However, it has now emerged that the Liverpool manager is instead watching the development of his international team-mate, McKennie.

The versatile midfielder moved to Germany from FC Dallas in 2016 and broke into the Schalke first-team last season where he finished the campaign with 22 league appearances.

McKennie has started eight league matches this term and made a further five appearances as a substitute, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

Of players aged 21 and under to have made more than one appearance in the Bundesliga this season, only Augsburg forward Sergio Cordova (4.8) is winning more aerial duels per 90 than McKennie (4.6).
