Arsenal creator facing uncertain future in London

Mesut Ozil's future at Arsenal looks increasingly uncertain with the Gunners yet to instigate talks over a new contract, reports ESPN.

The 31-year-old's current deal at the Emirates expires next summer and was told by former boss Unai Emery he could leave the club last year.

However, Ozil has become a prominent figure in the current setup under Mikel Arteta, having started all 10 Premier League matches since the Spaniard took over in north London.

Yet that hasn't prompted the Gunners board to open talks over extending his stay at the club with it possible that Ozil will now leave this summer.

Ozil currently earns £350,000 a week on the deal he penned in January 2018 and the board are looking to remove him from the books to free up funds elsewhere.

The former Germany international has struggled to match expectations of the Gunners fanbase having had a direct hand in just three league goals this season and it has seen the 2014 World Cup winner cut a divisive figure at the Emirates.

It remains to be seen, though, whether any potential suitors would be willing to match his huge wage demands and while Ozil has previously hinted he would not be against staying at the club, he would likely need to take a wage cut in order to extend his stay in the capital.
