Manchester United shelve contract talks with Paul Pogba

Manchester United still believe they can convince Paul Pogba his long-term future is at Old Trafford but have delayed contract talks with the unsettled Frenchman, claims ESPN.

Pogba has been heavily linked with a dramatic move away from United since the end of last season and his agent, Mino Raiola, has reportedly even offered his clients to rival clubs around Europe.

Barcelona are the frontrunners for Pogba's signature should he leave United and on Thursday the 25-year-old conceded he is not sure whether he will still at the club in a few months.

Pogba's unhappiness dates back to Alexis Sanchez joining United and becoming the club's best-paid player on reported £500,000-a-week wages.

The 2018 World Cup winner still has three years remaining on his current United deal but Jose Mourinho's side were open to handing the midfielder improved terms.

Keeping Pogba beyond his current deal is still a priority for United but the Premier League giants have delayed talks while his future is uncertain at the club.

United have an option to extend Pogba's contract by a further 12 months and will almost certainly trigger that if they fail to broker a new long-term deal.

Pogba has scored two penalties in United's opening four Premier League matches but missed from the spot in a 2-0 win away to Burnley last weekend.

Since returning to Old Trafford in 2016, Pogba is United's highest WhoScored rated player in the Premier League, of those to have made at least five appearances (7.60).
