Leicester to name Shakespeare as permanent manager

Leicester will announce Craig Shakespeare as their new permanent manager next week, reports The Daily Mirror.

Shakespeare was put in temporary charge of last season’s Premier League winners after the club made the controversial decision to sack Claudio Ranieri in February before being given the job until the end of the season after making an impressive start.

The 53-year-old not only guided Leicester into the Champions League quarter-finals where they were narrowly knocked out by Atletico Madrid, but he also steered the club to safety in the Premier League and now the club are poised to announce Shakespeare as their new full-time manager.

Shakespeare’s was due to revert back to his previous role as assistant manager at the end of the month but he has impressed Leicester’s Thai owners and will now be handed a new contract on improved terms.

Leicester were only five points above the bottom three when Shakespeare was promoted but now the Foxes are nine points above the clear off the drop zone and now on the cusp of a top 10 finish with two games remaining. In fact, the Foxes would be seventh if the league started when Shakespeare was made manager.
