Real Madrid almost signed European wonderkid

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has sensationally revealed they almost signed Kylian Mbappe before Monaco landed the teenager in 2013.

Mbappe, 17, is expected to be one of the most in-demand players in the transfer market in the summer after enjoying a blockbuster campaign for a free-scoring Monaco side this season.

The Monaco wonderkid’s performances saw him earn his first senior France call-up earlier this week, while big money moves in the region of £60m have already been mooted with a number of Premier League clubs.

However, his future could have panned out slightly different had he accepted Madrid’s advances and Zidane has now confirmed they were chasing his signature back in 2013.

“He was almost signed by Madrid, but he went to Monaco,” Football Espana quote Zidane as telling reporters. “We know he’s very good. For someone his age, he’s doing something fantastic."
