Van Gaal confirms interest in former legend

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has revealed the club will try and re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid in the future.

The United boss has repeatedly expressed the need to buy a marquee player for the club to challenge on all fronts and Ronaldo has never shut the door on a return to Old Trafford.

Ronaldo, who will turn 31 in February, has been continually linked with a move away from Madrid at the end of the season and Van Gaal insists the club will head the race to capture his signature.

“He plays on the wings and he is fast and scores goals. I don’t think there is a trainer in the world that doesn’t like him. Of course we look,” Van Gaal told various British Sunday newspapers.

“We are looking at all players, not just Ronaldo. But these players are mostly ungettable. With Ronaldo, let’s wait and hope. There is no trainer in the world that doesn’t like him.”

Ronaldo won three Premier League titles and the Champions League during his six years at United and has since gone on to become Madrid’s all-time record goalscorer.

However, the Portugal international has been strangely quiet this season and he has reportedly already fallen out with manager Rafa Benitez. In fact, the Madrid No.7 only failed to score in 10 of his 35 league appearances last season and has already drawn a blank in eight of his 12 La Liga matches this time around.
