Manchester United goalkeeper to sign new deal

Manchester United will reward Dean Henderson with a new long-term deal before sending him back on loan to Sheffield United, reports The Daily Mirror.

Henderson, who has one year left on his current deal, spent last season on loan with Sheffield United and played an integral part in their promotion from the Championship.

The 22-year-old, who is currently away with England at the U21 European Championships, has his heart set on becoming United’s first choice goalkeeper.

Henderson already feels he is ready to replace David de Gea but United will allow the youngster to get Premier League experience with Sheffield United.

De Gea has one year left to run on his existing United contract and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have failed to make a breakthrough in talks.

Despite the risk of losing De Gea for nothing at the end of next season, United are not thinking about cashing in on the Spain international this summer.

It means that United will review their goalkeeping situation in 12 months and a decision on Henderson’s long-term future will be made then.

If De Gea does not renew his contract and United overlook Henderson as his replacement then the England Under-21 international will almost certainly leave on a permanent deal.

Henderson kept more clean sheets than any other goalkeeper in the Championship last season (21).
