Liverpool have rejected Swansea’s approach for former midfielder Joe Allen, according to The Daily Mail.
Allen, 25, has entered the final 18 months of his deal at Anfield and Swansea had hoped to lure the Wales international back to the club as they bid to starve off the threat of relegation.
The Reds paid £15m to sign Allen from Swansea in 2012 but injuries coupled with form have seen him on the fringes of the first-team for the majority of his Anfield career.
Allen recently admitted talks about a contract extension with the club had gone quiet and his desire to play more regularly, but any possibility of a return to his boyhood club.
“It’s gone very quiet. I’m not too sure really. ‘I want to play more. I think that’s obvious for any player in that situation,” Allen told The Guardian.
“From my point of view, it’s just about knuckling down, doing my job and giving my best, which is always what I do.”
Allen has scored in consecutive games for the first time since October 2011, but he has only started in one Premier League game this season.
