Arsenal striker’s future hinges on Wenger’s decision

The agent of Olivier Giroud has revealed the striker will make a decision on his Arsenal future once manager Arsene Wenger has clarified his own future at the club.

Wenger’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season and he was due to announce whether he would accept a two-year extension or walk away from the club in March or April.

The Arsenal manager revealed in his press conference ahead of their clash with Manchester United on Sunday that a decision is yet to be made and Giroud’s agent, Michael Manuello, has revealed his decision will play a large part in his client’s future.

“There has not been any contact between Marseille and us,” Manuello told The Daily Mirror. “Now, as there is uncertainty about what Arsenal are going to do and if there is uncertainty on his role, we will reflect on this in the summer.

“His future is not linked with the coach’s. It is linked with what Arsenal are going to do and if there is a change in Arsenal’s direction regarding the involvement of Olivier in the project.

“Olivier wants to help his team qualify for the Champions League. When we know exactly what Arsene Wenger is doing, we will ask ourselves questions. We will think about what is possible and what is not possible.

“Our desire is to be at Arsenal long term. Olivier has been there for five years. The aim for Olivier is still to go as far as possible in this adventure with Arsenal to do great things there.”

Arsenal striker’s future hinges on Wenger’s decision

Giroud only signed a new contract extension with Arsenal at the start of the year but he has found regular game time hard to come by. Wenger used Alexis Sanchez through the middle for the first half of the season but the France international has come back into the reckoning of late and has generally performed well when called upon.

In fact, of players that have scored at least five Premier League goals this season, only Harry Kane (1 every 103.9 minutes) has required fewer minutes per goal than Giroud (every 112.1 minutes).
