Roma star wants Bundesliga return

Roma striker Edin Dzeko says he owes everything for his career to Wolfsburg and wants to return to the Bundesliga side as a player in the future.

Dzeko left Wolfsburg to join Manchester City in January 2011 in a £27m deal before eventually joining Roma four years later.

The Bosnia international enjoyed one of the best campaigns of his career last season after finishing the season as the Capocannoniere in Serie A (29 league goals).

Dzeko has been forced to clarify he is happy at Roma in recent weeks but the 31-year-old will only have fuelled talk of a summer exit after paying tribute to former club Wolfsburg.

“I owe absolutely everything to Wolfsburg,” Tuttosport quote Dzeko as saying to German press on international duty with Bosnia, via Football Italia.

“I’m only 31 years old on paper, but I feel better than ever. I have a three-year contract with Roma and I’m fine there, but I hope to return to Wolfsburg as a player one day.

“I owe everything to this club: without Wolfsburg, there wouldn’t be Manchester or Rome.”

The Bosnian striker spent four years at Wolfsburg where he helped lead the club to their first ever league title in 2009. He moved to City after scoring 66 goals in 111 league appearances.

Dzeko finished the 2016/17 campaign in the WhoScored team of the season in Europe’s top five leagues after becoming the first Roma player to score 29 league goals since Rodolfo Volk in 1930/31.
