Arsenal star demanding £400,000-a-week in shock contract demands

Arsenal’s chances of retaining the services of Alexis Sanchez have been served with another huge blow after being told their star man is now demanding £400,000-a-week to sign a new deal, reports The Daily Mirror.

The Gunners are desperate to convince Sanchez to commit his long-term future to the club but those hopes are fading quickly as their current offer, which would make the Chile international the best paid player in the club’s history, only stands at £275,000-a-week.

Sanchez only has 12 months remaining in his current deal and has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City this summer where Pep Guardiola is keen to reunite with the 28-year-old.

Arsene Wenger has previously reiterated the fact he would rather lose Sanchez for nothing when his contract expires next summer than sell him to a direct Premier League rival this summer, but he may have no choice after Bayern Munich withdrew their interest earlier this month.

The north London outfit broke their club-transfer record to sign Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette on Wednesday in a deal worth £46.5m, but it remains to be seen whether they would actually be willing to turn down a similar fee for Sanchez and let him leave for free next summer.

In the Premier League last season, only Harry Kane (36) scored or assisted more goals than the Arsenal No.7 (34), while only Eden Hazard (7.81) secured a higher WhoScored rating (Sanchez - 7.76).
