Barcelona have announced they have reached an agreement with Toulouse defender Jean-Clair Todibo.
Ernesto Valverde’s side have beaten off competition from Manchester City to sign the highly rated 19-year-old from Toulouse.
City were willing to pay Toulouse a small fee this month to secure Todibo’s signature but the pull of Barcelona proved decisive.
Todibo, who is a France Under-20 international, will see out the remainder of his contract at Toulouse before moving to Barcelona in the summer.
“FC Barcelona have reached an agreement with the French player Jean-Clair Todibo for him to join the club from 1 July 2019,” a statement read on the club’s official website.
The teenager has enjoyed a promising breakthrough campaign in France this season, starting 10 matches in Ligue 1.
Todibo scored his first senior goal during Toulouse’s 1-1 draw with Rennes in September.
He is averaging more clearances per game than any other Toulouse player in Ligue 1 this term (6.2).
