Real Madrid in £200m tug-of-war with Tottenham for Harry Kane

Tottenham are determined to fend off interest from Real Madrid for star man Harry Kane as the La Liga giants eye a world record £200m bid, reports The Times.

Madrid plan to revitalise their offensive options at the end of the season and have made signing Kane one of their main priorities, as they look to eclipse the £198m Paris Saint-Germain paid Barcelona for Neymar in the summer.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy wants to secure Kane’s long-term future by offering him a significant wage hike on his current £120,000-a-week deal, which is currently well down the list of top Premier League earners.

Levy is reportedly even willing to offer Kane nearer £200,000-a-week in order to prevent Kane from leaving Tottenham at the end of the season but financial pressures at the club would only intensify if they miss out on a top four place this season.

Estimated costs for Tottenham’s new stadium, which they are due to move into next season, go as high as £750m and that could prove a real sticking point as Tottenham look to tie down a number of first team players on new contracts, including the likes of Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen.

Kane has established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League in recent years, scoring at least 20 Premier League goals in each of the last four seasons.
