Sevilla land West Ham striker for £7.2m

Sevilla have confirmed the arrival of West Ham striker Javier Hernandez in a deal worth a reported £7.2m.

Hernandez joined West Ham from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2017 but failed to nail down a regular starting berth.

The 31-year-old, who had entered the final year of his West Ham deal, finally requested a move away this summer after dropping further down the pecking order for places.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side broke their club-transfer record to prise Sebastien Haller from Frankfurt and Hernandez will now hope for regular playing time back in Spain.

The Mexico international’s only previous stint in Spain came during a season-loan long move to Real Madrid in 2014/15 where he averaged a league goal every 122.7 minutes of action.

Hernandez made 55 league appearances for West Ham, though only 31 of those came as starts for the east London outfit. He averaged a goal every 187 minutes in that time.
