Manchester City defender open to summer exit

Nicolas Otamendi will consider his future at Manchester City at the end of the season, reports Goal.

The Argentina international wants regular playing time next season and isn’t prepared to settle for Pep Guardiola’s tendency to rotate his defenders.

Otamendi has spent the last four years at City and even penned a contract extension in January 2018 to prolong his deal until the summer of 2022.

The 31-year-old, who cost City £32m from Valencia, has only started 14 league matches this season and is open to the idea of finding regular playing time elsewhere.

With Vincent Kompany coming to the end of his career, City have made signing a new centre-back a priority this summer.

The Premier League leaders may even use money raised from Otamendi’s potential departure to fund a move for their top transfer target.

City have lost three of the 47 league matches Otamendi has started since the beginning of last season, as many as they have suffered in the 22 matches he hasn’t started in that time.

Of those to have started at least 10 league games this season, only two players have a better pass success rate than Otamendi (92.7%).
