Liverpool have completed a surprise deal to sign Queens Park Rangers defender Steven Caulker on loan for the remainder of the season.
Caulker, 24, has been on a season-long loan deal at Southampton but Ronald Koeman’s side came to an agreement to cut short his stay at Saint Mary’s to allow him to make the switch to Anfield.
The England international’s arrival will ease the injury crisis Jurgen Klopp is currently enduring at Anfield and the deal has been completed in time for him to come into contention to face Arsenal in the league on Wednesday evening.
Caulker started just one Premier League match during his five-month stint at Southampton and struggled to make any real impression under Koeman.
He was particularly abysmal in their 6-1 defeat to Liverpool in the League Cup at the start of December, which turned out to be his last game for the club.
