Newcastle interested in signing Besiktas star

Newcastle want to sign Besiktas striker Cenk Tosun but are not willing to match the club’s £17m valuation, reports Chronicle Live.

Tosun has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League since the end of last season and now Newcastle are ready to challenge Crystal Palace for his signature.

Besiktas are willing to sell the Turkey international in January and believe their valuation is justified following Tosun’s performances in the Champions League.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez wants to sign at least one striker in January but the Magpies are not willing to break their club transfer record to land the 26-year-old.

Benitez’s side have only scored 10 goals in 11 league matches this season and the Newcastle boss wants to add more firepower to the ranks to help the club’s quest of avoiding relegation.

Only Cristiano Ronaldo (6) and Harry Kane (5) have scored more Champions League goals than Tosun this season (4). Furthermore, only Vagner Love (31) has scored more goals in the Turkish Super Lig since August 2016 (Tosun - 25).
