United enter race for Madrid star

Manchester United have entered the race to sign frustrated Real Madrid star James Rodriguez, according to Spanish TV show El Chiringuito.

Rodriguez, 24, has reportedly become unsettled with life at the Bernabéu under Rafa Benitez and is even prepared to force his way out at the end of the season with Chelsea and Arsenal among those interested in his services.

The Colombia international still has five years left to run on his current deal in the Spanish capital and could still be swayed to remain at the club with Benitez’s future unlikely to extend beyond the current season following the problems he has already encountered.

Rodriguez finished the 2014 World Cup as the tournament’s top goalscorer (6), which promoted his big move from Monaco to Madrid, but it has been his creativity that has been most impressive during his time in the capital.

In fact, since the start of last season only Nolito (2.7) has created more chances per game than Rodriguez (2.6) in La Liga.
