Scottish Premiership side Rangers have confirmed the appointment of Steven Gerrard as new manager following the dismissal of Graeme Murty.
Murty was relieved of duties after the club’s 5-0 Old Firm Derby defeat last weekend, a result that saw fierce rivals Celtic crowned champions.
Gerrard, who had been working with Liverpool U18s, will take charge at Ibrox over the summer after penning a four-year deal with the Scottish side.
“Rangers Football Club are delighted to confirm that Steven Gerrard has agreed to become the new manager of the Club,” a statement read on the club’s official website.
“The former Liverpool and England captain will join the club this summer on a four-year deal.”
Gerrard went on to say: “I am honoured to become the next manager of Rangers. I have enormous respect for this football club, and its history and tradition.
“I can’t wait to start this new journey at Rangers as we look to build on the many successes that this Club has achieved.”
Defeat to Celtic last week leaves Rangers, who face Kilmarnock this weekend, three behinds behind second placed Aberdeen.
